Konan Specular Microscope

product close up F Crop300pxWhy What Are You Missing

The Konan Specular Microscope images a sample of the corneal endothelium and provides statistical analysis that allows our doctors to evaluate the health and function of the cornea.  This instrument also optically measures the thickness of the cornea.  The corneal endothelium is the back layer of the cornea and is responsible for pumping water out of the cornea to maintain clarity.  A poorly functioning endothelial layer results in corneal swelling and haze, causing your vision to be cloudy.  Evaluation of the endothelium is essential before surgical procedures of the cornea (like LASIK or cataract surgery), and necessary to determine optimal contact lens type and ongoing health with contact lens wear.
